A conversation with Sanford Biggers and Steven Nelson, Associate Professor of African and African American art history at UCLA, moderated by Helen Molesworth, Houghton Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Harvard Art Museum/Fogg Museum.

Drawing on the ethnological study of objects, urban culture, and popular icons, Sanford Biggers integrates music, performance, video, and sculpture to create multisensory installations of unusual power.

Sanford Biggers was recently awarded the 2009 William H. Johnson Prize and is one of three finalists in the Jack Wolgin International Competition in the Fine Arts at Temple University's Tyler School of Art.

Co-sponsored by the Office for the Arts at Harvard and Harvard Art Museum. Sanford Biggers is the 2009 Marshall S. Cogan Artist in Residence through the Public Art Program at the Office for the Arts at Harvard, which has commissioned a temporary installation from him for the fall of 2009. Constellation (Stranger Fruit) is on view November 6–December 2, 2009 at the Memorial Hall/Sanders Theatre Transept, Quincy & Kirkland Streets, Cambridge.
